Oral Cancer Information Oral Cancer Image

Now that we have your attention, the largest group of cancers in the head/neck area are the oral cancers, also called mouth cancers, throat cancer, and tongue cancer.

Two Pathways To Oral Cancer

  1. TOBACCO and ALCOHOL USE.
  2. ORAL SEX has caused the spread of the HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS - version 16 from the genital area to the mouth. This is the same virus responsible for the vast majority of cervical cancers in women.

There are 100 new cases of oral cancer found every day in the United States alone. The semi-good news is there is an 80% - 90% survival rate if found early.

The bad news is that it is usually found in later stages due to lack of public awareness.

So Now You Know!

Make sure you, and anyone you care about, get regular dental exams which include your oral cancer exam!!

And watch for lumps, bumps, patchy areas, open sores, and lesions anywhere around your lips, tongue, gums, and everywhere inside your mouth and throat.
