For pain in and around teeth, begin by meticulously cleaning around the sore tooth. Remove all impacted food trapped there. Rinse with warm salt water. Dr. Grussenmeyer prefers SEA SALT. Its trace minerals help with healing.
( You should be using sea salt, the unrefined type, anyway. The usual bleached and non-caking iodized salt should not be used for consumption in your home when you can use natural sea salt. So keep it around for all of your salt needs! ) UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you be setting aspirin on aching gums and teeth. You will receive a chemical burn from it.

If you have swelling, apply cold compresses to the area. Heat can make swollen areas expand further. For temporary relief, Dr. Grussenmeyer recommends using naproxen sodium (Aleve). If you cannot use anti-inflammatory medications take acetaminophen (Tylenol) as recommended.
